Baba
Farid University of Health Sciences was established
under an Act passed by the Legislature of the State of Punjab
in July, 1998. The mission of the University is to create
an intellectual and academic environment, conducive to free
flow of ideas and exchange of information between various
faculties of the University and between this University and
other Universities in the country and abroad, thereby opening
a window to the world for health professionals, health planners,
health managers, biomedical and social scientists and educators
in health sciences of the country.
Post
Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER)
was established in 1962 and has since grown in every respect:
number of medical specialties taught, in the number of students
and faculty, in sophisticated medical equipment and most of
all, in the number of patients treated. Nehru Hospital was
originally intended to be a referral hospital, but increasingly
its high standard of treatment has made it the first option
of people in need of treatment. They come not only from the
Union Territory but also from the adjoining states and even
from distant parts of India.
Christian
Medical College is situated in a large campus not
far from the Ludhiana Railway Station, on both sides of the
Brown Road. Through education in this college, the Christian
Church seeks to make a significant contribution to the health
standards of all communities of our nation, with special emphasis
on health care in the rural underserved and unreached areas/communities
in India. The College maintains 775 hospital beds.
